Net Zero certification for Andhra development authority office

In a significant milestone for sustainable development, the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) Project Office in Amaravati has been awarded the prestigious Net Zero Energy (Design) certification by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC). This marks the first building in Amaravati to receive such recognition, highlighting the state government’s commitment to environmentally responsible urban planning.

The CRDA, established under the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority Act, 2014, plays a pivotal role in planning and managing the capital region, which includes parts of Guntur, Krishna, and NTR districts. Its mission is to ensure planned development that balances economic growth, infrastructure needs, and environmental sustainability. The award-winning project office exemplifies these principles in practice.

The certification acknowledges that the building is designed to meet its entire annual energy needs through renewable energy sources. A 540 kW rooftop solar system is being installed to supply clean energy, and additional renewable energy measures will ensure the project office achieves full “Net Zero Energy” status. This makes the building a flagship project, setting a benchmark for sustainable office infrastructure across the state.

Speaking on the occasion, Commissioner K. Kannababu stated that the CRDA Project Office is a flagship Net Zero project, reflecting the authority’s strong commitment to environmental protection. He added that it would serve as a model for future government projects. The 2018 IGBC Platinum certification of the Amaravati Master Plan is another example of the state’s focus on sustainable urban planning.

Officials highlighted that this recognition was made possible through the effective leadership of Commissioner K. Kannababu, the strategic guidance of Additional Commissioner A. Bhargava Teja, and the significant contributions of CRDA Engineer-in-Chief R. Gopalakrishna Reddy, Chief Engineer (Housing & Office) P.V.K. Bhaskar, and Chief Architect & Design Coordinator Sandeep Dixit.

CRDA’s approach to sustainability goes beyond the project office. The authority promotes green building standards, energy-efficient infrastructure, renewable energy adoption, and comprehensive environmental and social management frameworks across all projects. These initiatives help reduce carbon footprints, promote energy conservation, and protect natural resources, positioning Amaravati as a model green capital for India.
