
Nepal, US Hold Talks to Boost Economic Partnership and Investment
Nepal’s Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle held talks with Sergio Gor , the special envoy of US President Donald Trump for South and Central Asia, on Friday to advance economic cooperation and development partnership between the two countries.
The meeting, held at Nepal’s Ministry of Finance in Kathmandu, focused on strengthening bilateral engagement, with discussions covering economic partnership, development assistance, and areas of mutual interest , according to ministry sources.
Both sides reviewed ongoing US-supported initiatives in Nepal’s economic development and explored avenues for future American investment . They also discussed expanding cooperation across key sectors and enhancing trade ties.
Gor, who arrived in Kathmandu on Thursday night, is on an official visit representing the US administration. According to updates shared by the US Embassy, the discussions were described as “constructive and productive,” with particular emphasis on advancing initiatives under the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) and broadening bilateral trade.
Nepal and the United States share a long-standing partnership rooted in development cooperation, democratic support, and economic assistance . The US has been a key development partner, contributing to infrastructure, health, education, and governance reforms in Nepal. In recent years, ties have expanded to include investment, energy development, and strategic connectivity projects , particularly through MCC-backed programmes.
