Nepal’s Minister for Forests and Environment, Madhav Prasad Chaulagain , expressed confidence that Nepal will successfully complete its ongoing elections in a smooth and timely manner. Speaking at the World Sustainable Development Summit 2026 held in New Delhi, he described the electoral process as “historic in itself” and emphasised the government’s commitment to ensuring democratic continuity.

He stated that the current administration functions as a civil government with a clear mandate to conduct timely elections and ensure a smooth transfer of power in line with democratic principles. According to him, political parties and citizens are actively engaged in the process as the country moves forward on its election roadmap.

The minister acknowledged that Nepal had faced a serious political situation a few months ago , which posed challenges to stability. However, he noted that concerted efforts were made to stabilise the situation and keep the democratic process on track. He highlighted that these measures helped restore confidence and maintain institutional continuity.

Chaulagain also expressed gratitude for the support extended by friendly nations, including India , in facilitating a stable and successful democratic transition. He said such progressive support has strengthened Nepal’s efforts to safeguard its political process and ensure credible elections.

A total of 18.9 million eligible voters will participate in the polls to elect 275 members of the House of Representatives (HoR) . Polling is scheduled to take place on March 5, from 7 am to 5 pm , marking a key step in Nepal’s ongoing democratic exercise.
