Nepal has established a high‑level committee to enforce strict rescue procedures and strengthen oversight in the Everest region, amid concerns over irregular helicopter rescue operations. “We are committed to renewing international trust and reinforcing Nepal’s reputation as a safe, responsible adventure tourism destination,” said Joint Secretary and ministry spokesperson Jaya Narayan Acharya.

The committee, led by the Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, will coordinate implementation of digital verification systems , enhanced monitoring and ethical compliance standards. “We have taken serious note of reports alleging exaggerated symptoms and unnecessary evacuations, and are acting decisively,” Acharya added.

A joint monitoring task force comprising the ministry, Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal, Nepal Police, Nepal Tourism Board and industry partners has been mobilized to conduct regular audits, ensure accurate communication, and work directly with international insurance providers to validate rescue claims and restore confidence. “Our zero‑tolerance policy will ensure transparency, accountability, and system integrity,” the ministry statement said.

Officials clarified that allegations of deliberate harm to tourists, including contaminated food, have not been substantiated by the Central Investigation Bureau. “No facts have been found to suggest poisonous substances were mixed into food,” the CIB said in an official release, urging media outlets to verify reports before publication.

In addition to immediate oversight, Nepal is advancing medium‑ and long‑term reforms including a technology‑enabled Rescue Management System linking trekker registration, rescue requests and insurance validation, tighter licensing and ethical standards for guides and agencies, standardized altitude sickness protocols, enhanced local governance and ethical tourism certification standards .

The government said these measures will protect climbers, uphold industry integrity and support Nepal’s continued status as a world‑class mountain tourism destination.
