
Nepal Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal To Visit India From June 5-7 For Talks With S Jaishankar
Shisir Khanal will begin a three-day official visit to India from June 6 , marking a key diplomatic engagement between Kathmandu and New Delhi, according to official and diplomatic sources.
The visit comes at the invitation of India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and will include a formal bilateral meeting in New Delhi , where both sides are expected to review the full spectrum of Nepal–India relations.
During the talks, the two ministers will focus on trade and investment cooperation , along with strengthening connectivity, energy partnership, and people-to-people ties , which remain central pillars of the bilateral relationship. The agenda is also expected to cover major ongoing and proposed infrastructure initiatives.
These include the Pancheshwar multipurpose hydropower project , the proposed Janakpur–Ayodhya railway link , and the East-West railway corridor , all of which are seen as long-term connectivity drivers between the two neighbours.
In addition, discussions are likely to address expansion of the India–Nepal petroleum pipeline network , improvements in cross-border digital payment systems such as QR-based transactions , and broader trade facilitation measures aimed at easing cross-border commerce.
According to diplomatic sources, there is also a possibility of a courtesy interaction with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi , although this has not been officially confirmed.
The Nepal foreign ministry said the visit reflects the tradition of regular high-level exchanges between the two countries and is expected to further strengthen the longstanding and multifaceted bilateral partnership .
Officials also noted that this will be Khanal’s first official visit to India in his current role , coming shortly after a series of recent diplomatic engagements between the two sides, underscoring renewed momentum in bilateral ties.
The visit is widely viewed as part of ongoing efforts by both governments to stabilise and deepen cooperation across strategic, economic, and developmental sectors .
