Negligence in Voter Roll Revision Drive Will Affect Future Nominations, Warns CM Revanth Reddy

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed Congress leaders and public representatives across the state to treat the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls as a mission-mode programme, warning that those who fail to actively participate in the exercise will not be considered for future nominated positions, including corporation chairmanships and other key posts.

The Chief Minister issued the warning while participating virtually in a review meeting on the SIR programme on Sunday. The meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka , TPCC President Mahesh Kumar Goud , Telangana Congress affairs in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan , AICC Secretary Sachin Sawant , ministers, MPs, MLAs, MLCs, constituency in-charges and SIR coordinators.

With the deadline for submitting SIR-related applications extended until August 3 , Revanth Reddy instructed party leaders to stay away from Gandhi Bhavan until then and devote their time to field-level work. He said the extended period should be used to meet voters directly, understand their concerns and ensure that corrections and updates in the electoral rolls are completed efficiently.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the performance of some leaders in certain districts, the Chief Minister said future appointments to corporations and other nominated positions would take into account each leader’s contribution to the SIR exercise. He also warned that MPs entrusted with responsibilities in specific constituencies could face strict action if they fail to discharge their duties effectively.

Revanth Reddy directed 10 district in-charge ministers to hold review meetings on July 20 to assess SIR progress. MPs attending the ongoing Parliament session were also asked to review developments in their assigned constituencies whenever possible. He stressed that MPs, MLAs and MLCs should not remain absent from review meetings.

According to details presented during the meeting, the Congress party has already conducted 489 meetings across all 119 Assembly constituencies in Telangana as part of the voter roll revision campaign. The Chief Minister instructed party leaders to focus more intensely on constituencies where progress remains slow.

He also advised elected representatives and constituency in-charges not to rely solely on reports submitted by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) . Instead, they should carefully examine reports prepared by Congress-appointed Booth Level Agents (BLAs) and cross-check ground-level information. He warned that negligence in monitoring these reports would invite strict action.

The Chief Minister further directed ministers, MLAs, constituency in-charges, corporation chairpersons and party representatives handling SIR responsibilities to undertake extensive tours across their constituencies over the next ten days. The Gandhi Bhavan team was asked to continuously monitor reports submitted by both BLOs and BLAs.

As an incentive, Revanth Reddy announced that the 100 best-performing BLAs would be given an opportunity to meet senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and interact with him personally. He also announced that a comprehensive statewide review of the SIR programme will be held on July 30 .
