NEET-PG 2026: Supreme Court Seeks Centre’s Response on Exam Transparency

The Supreme Court on Thursday sought responses from the Centre, the National Medical Commission (NMC) and other authorities on a petition seeking greater transparency in the NEET-PG 2026 answer-key and response disclosure process.

A bench comprising Justices P S Narasimha and Alok Aradhe issued notices on October 15 and tagged the petition with pending pleas. The court has not passed a final order on the disclosures sought.

The petition was filed by the Democratic Medical Association and others, challenging the disclosure mechanism followed by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). It questions an October 1 notice under which candidates could access question-wise evaluation details through their individual applicant logins.

According to the petitioners, the available details include numerical question identifiers, answer codes, recorded responses and marks, but do not provide the actual questions and complete answer options shown to each candidate. They contend that this limits candidates’ ability to independently verify whether their responses were evaluated correctly.

The petition seeks access to the actual questions, complete answer options, candidates’ recorded responses and correct answers. It also seeks downloadable copies of the records and a time-bound window for raising objections to discrepancies.

NEET-PG 2026 was held on August 30, and results were declared on September 24. A supplementary examination took place on September 5 for candidates affected by a technical disruption at an examination centre in Jaipur.

The plea asks for a review process through which disputed questions or evaluation discrepancies can be examined. The association has also sought appropriate corrections where errors are established. The allegations remain part of the petition and have not been determined by the court.

The Supreme Court’s notice requires the respondents to present their responses. The matter has been linked with pending petitions concerning examination-related issues. No direction ordering full disclosure, re-evaluation or changes to scores has been issued in the order reported on Thursday.

The notice does not mean the court has granted the relief sought by petitioners.
