Neeraj Chopra starts Vel Sports after JSW split

India’s most celebrated track and field athlete Neeraj Chopra has parted ways with JSW Sports after a decade-long association, announcing the launch of his own athlete management company, Vel Sports , in a significant move that signals a new phase in his career beyond competition.

The 27-year-old two-time Olympic medallist had been associated with JSW Sports since 2016, a period that coincided with his rise from a promising junior athlete to a global javelin icon. Both Chopra and JSW Sports described the separation as amicable, marked by mutual respect and pride in what they achieved together.

“Over the last decade, our journey together has been one of growth, belief and achievement. JSW Sports has played a defining role in my career, and I’ll always remain grateful for their support and vision,” Chopra said in a statement. He added that he would carry the same values into the next phase of his journey.

JSW Sports CEO Divyanshu Singh praised Chopra’s impact, calling the partnership “an incredible experience” and saying the athlete’s success reflected the organisation’s philosophy of excellence and purpose.

Chopra’s career has redefined Indian athletics. He became the first Indian to win an Olympic gold medal in track and field at the Tokyo Games in 2021, followed by a world championship gold in 2023. He added an Olympic silver at the Paris Games in 2024, along with multiple podium finishes on the international circuit.

With Vel Sports, Chopra aims to shape athlete management on his own terms while continuing his pursuit of sporting excellence.
