NDMC steps up infrastructure, cleanliness ahead of India AI Impact Summit 2026
With the capital set to host the India AI Impact Summit 2026 from February 15 to 20, the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has intensified civic works, aiming to provide a “G20-level experience” for global leaders, policymakers, and AI experts, the civic body said on Sunday.
Acting on the directions of the Delhi chief secretary , NDMC has launched a wide-ranging revamp covering infrastructure upgrades, cleanliness drives, improved lighting, and beautification in areas likely to be visited by delegates. Special focus is on Bharat Mandapam , the main venue for the inaugural event, as well as zones around five-star hotels, key roundabouts, heritage buildings, gardens, Connaught Place, India Gate, Lodhi Garden and Humayun’s Tomb .
NDMC officials said inspections of all 41 avenue roads have been completed, with responsibilities assigned and action plans finalised to repair potholes, footpaths, and damaged grilles , and to improve signage, road safety, and pedestrian access . Cleanliness measures include daily mechanical sweeping, deep cleaning of markets, and “Operation Clean” across all 14 NDMC circles , aiming to enhance sanitation and air quality .
The civic body also highlighted its focus on operational readiness , including a dedicated control room, coordination with security and traffic agencies , and measures to ensure the smooth movement of dignitaries .
While the upgrades are primarily aimed at creating a polished environment for international visitors, officials said many of these improvements from repaired roads and footpaths to cleaner public spaces and better lighting will benefit residents long after the summit ends , enhancing safety, accessibility, and overall urban quality.
The summit itself is a high-profile international event that brings together global AI experts, technology leaders, and policymakers to discuss AI innovation, governance, and its societal impact. Hosting it positions India as a thought leader in AI , reinforces its global technological credentials, and opens opportunities for investment, research collaboration, and international partnerships .
