NDA to form government in Tamil Nadu in 2026, says Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday expressed confidence that the NDA will form the government in Tamil Nadu after the April 2026 Assembly elections, marking a strong challenge to the ruling DMK and Congress.

Addressing a grand public meeting at the conclusion of BJP Tamil Nadu President Nainar Nagenthran’s “Tamilagam Thalainimiria Tamilanin Payanam” yatra , Shah said the initiative aimed to revive Tamil Nadu from the darkness of DMK’s misrule . He highlighted his efforts in rooting out Naxalism from India as an example, stating that the NDA would now eradicate corruption and misgovernance in the state .

Shah formally announced the BJP’s alliance strategy , confirming a strong coalition with AIADMK and other regional partners to contest against DMK and Congress. “In 2026, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal will see NDA governments under the leadership of our Hon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” he said.

The Home Minister launched a scathing attack on the DMK government, alleging it to be India’s most corrupt political party , thriving on money laundering, sand and coal scams, the CRIDP scam, cash-for-jobs, and demanding 20% commissions in every project. He also accused the DMK of failing to protect women and children and suppressing the Hindu community, while prioritising the political future of CM Stalin’s son, Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Shah noted that under DMK rule, every Tamil family today carries an average debt of ₹4.5 lakh, and the government has fulfilled less than 10% of its 505 poll promises . He urged BJP workers and citizens to reach every household in the next 90 days to expose DMK’s failures .

Highlighting NDA’s governance record, Shah said that while only ₹1.53 lakh crore reached Tamil Nadu between 2004–2014, the NDA government delivered ₹11 lakh crore between 2014–2024 . He also underlined PM Modi’s commitment to promoting Tamil, citing Tamil in IAS & IPS exams, railway announcements, a Tamil Chair at BHU, and worldwide Tirukkural translations .

The yatra concluded in Pudukkottai , a land renowned for its pride and heritage, with Shah calling for an end to dynastic politics in Tamil Nadu and urging people to support the NDA’s vision of a developed and corruption-free state.
