NDA Seals Tamil Nadu Seat Sharing, AIADMK Allots 56 Seats to Allies

The AIADMK-led NDA in Tamil Nadu on Monday finalised a crucial seat-sharing agreement among key allies for the upcoming Assembly elections, allocating a total of 56 constituencies to three partners as part of its electoral strategy.

As per the arrangement, the BJP has been allotted 27 seats , while the PMK will contest 18 seats and the AMMK has secured 11 seats . The seat allocation for the AIADMK is yet to be officially announced, as talks with other allies are still ongoing . These include the Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) led by G.K. Vasan and the IJK, with discussions expected to conclude shortly.

Announcing the development at the party headquarters, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami said the negotiations were cordial and completed swiftly , noting that discussions held in the morning were finalised by the afternoon. He described the alliance as a cohesive and strong combine, expressing confidence that it would win over 210 of the 234 Assembly constituencies and form the next government.

The announcement was made in the presence of senior leaders including Union Minister Piyush Goyal, PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss and AMMK chief T. T. V. Dhinakaran. The leadership projected unity within the alliance and underscored its preparedness for the electoral contest.

Taking a swipe at the ruling DMK and its ally Indian National Congress, Palaniswami alleged delays and internal differences in their seat-sharing process, contrasting it with the NDA’s swift decision-making. He also remarked on the reduced bargaining strength of Left parties within the rival front.

Responding to criticism over his recent visit to New Delhi to meet Union Home Minister Amit Shah, he said such meetings were part of routine political consultations related to election strategy, and accused the DMK leadership of politicising the issue.

Polling for all 234 Assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu will be held on April 23, with the NDA expected to soon announce the final list of constituencies for each alliance partner.
