NDA MLAs Accuse YSRCP of Intimidation During AP Parishad By-Elections

NDA government MLAs have accused YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders of using intimidation and violence to disrupt the ongoing MPTC and ZPTC by-elections across Andhra Pradesh, allegedly attempting to discourage voters from exercising their franchise. Raising concerns over incidents reported from several constituencies, the legislators approached the State Election Commission (SEC) and sought immediate intervention to ensure that polling takes place without fear or political interference.

A delegation comprising MLAs Galla Madhavi, Nazeer Ahmed and Buchiram Prasad visited the State Election Commission office and met the Election Commissioner and Inspector General of Police (IGP). They submitted a formal complaint along with evidence of alleged disturbances in Chirala, Sattenapalli and Pulivendula constituencies. The legislators urged the authorities to examine the incidents and take necessary steps to prevent further violence.

Speaking after the meeting, Galla Madhavi alleged that the YSRCP was attempting to create unrest following its poor performance in the recently concluded municipal and corporation elections. She claimed that the party had failed to accept the public verdict and was now trying to influence the Parishad by-elections through intimidation rather than democratic participation.

According to Madhavi, the alleged incidents were part of an attempt to suppress voter turnout by creating an atmosphere of fear among the electorate. She specifically accused YSRCP leaders of bringing outsiders into constituencies to create disturbances and targeting TDP workers through physical attacks. She said such activities could undermine the credibility of the electoral process if not addressed immediately.

The MLA also questioned the YSRCP's position on unanimous elections, alleging that the party had resorted to coercive tactics to secure unopposed victories when it was in power. She described its present demand that no seat should be elected unanimously as an example of political double standards, referring to statements made by Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Madhavi asserted that the NDA government, under Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, was committed to conducting elections peacefully, without discrimination or political interference.
