NCORD Review Meeting Led by AP Chief Secretary Sai Prasad
The Andhra Pradesh government has stepped up its efforts to curb narcotics , focusing on eliminating cannabis cultivation, trafficking, and consumption. At a quarterly NCORD meeting held at the State Secretariat in Amaravati on Wednesday, Chief Secretary G. Sai Prasad directed officials to enforce a zero-tolerance approach towards drug abuse, particularly among youth.
He emphasized the need to dismantle the drug supply chain and strengthen surveillance at the grassroots level, especially in educational institutions and high-risk areas.
With a significant portion of drug trafficking occurring through interstate borders, officials are working to enhance coordination with neighboring states. Odisha has been identified as a key source of illegal cannabis inflow, prompting plans for joint border checks and improved intelligence-sharing .
The state’s anti-narcotics unit, ‘Eagle,’ has reported notable progress in 2026, seizing over 10,573 kilograms of cannabis, registering 432 cases, arresting 1,127 individuals, and confiscating 197 vehicles linked to drug trafficking. Action has also been taken against synthetic drugs.
To counter evolving trafficking methods, the government plans to deploy advanced technology, including drones and modern scanners at checkpoints, while also initiating legal steps to attach properties of key offenders.
The meeting also highlighted the importance of rehabilitation , with a focus on strengthening de-addiction centres and conducting awareness programmes in schools and colleges.
Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta outlined ongoing field-level measures, including specialized training for police personnel. Concluding the meeting, the Chief Secretary reiterated that drug control remains a top priority and called for public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities.
