NCL achieves 140 MT coal output ahead of schedule, strengthens energy security
In a significant boost to India’s energy sector, Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) has successfully achieved its annual coal production target of 140 million tonnes for the financial year 2025–26 ahead of schedule , reinforcing its position as a key contributor to the nation’s energy security.
The Singrauli-based subsidiary of Coal India Limited reached the milestone on March 30, demonstrating operational excellence across its 10 highly mechanised opencast mines. The achievement marks yet another year in NCL’s consistent decade-long record of meeting production targets, highlighting its efficiency and reliability in coal output.
At a time when stable energy supply remains critical for economic growth, NCL’s sustained production has ensured uninterrupted coal availability to thermal power plants across the country. This has played a crucial role in supporting continuous electricity generation and reducing dependence on imported coal.
The company’s management attributed the success to the dedication and resilience of its workforce, along with strong coordination among stakeholders. The early completion of the target also reflects improved mining practices and streamlined operations.
The milestone underscores the continued importance of domestic coal production in India’s energy landscape, serving as a dependable backbone for power generation while the country steadily advances its transition toward cleaner energy sources.
