
NCERT, IIT-Madras sign MoU to boost technological innovation and inclusive learning in education
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-Madras) to promote technological innovation, collaborative research, and digital integration in the education sector, officials said on Wednesday.
The partnership aims to leverage emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to enhance access, inclusivity, and quality in education. It also supports the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) by integrating technology-driven tools and methodologies into learning and teaching processes.
School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar stated that the initiative would help digitise all NCERT textbooks and make them available in 22 scheduled languages to promote learning in children’s mother tongues. He said IIT-Madras, known for its expertise in technology, would assist in developing digital content incorporating gamification, animation, videos, and extended reality (XR) to make learning more engaging.
Kumar added that the collaboration would focus on Personalised Adaptive Learning (PAL), using AI-based systems to design customised lesson plans, assessments, and learning tools that adapt to individual student needs and learning patterns.
The agreement also includes provisions for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) of teachers, big data management and analytics, and the creation of inclusive learning platforms using assistive technologies such as speech recognition and text-to-speech tools. These efforts aim to ensure that students from diverse linguistic and social backgrounds can access quality education tailored to their needs.
NCERT Chairman Dinesh Saklani described the collaboration as a key step towards achieving the NEP 2020 vision of accessible, inclusive, and technology-enabled education for all learners across India.
