NCB Seizes Drugs Worth Rs 43 Crore in Assam, Arrests Two Manipur Residents
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized 53.94 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 43 crore in Guwahati, Assam, and arrested two persons from Manipur in connection with an alleged drug trafficking operation originating in Myanmar, officials said on Sunday.
The seizure was made during an operation on October 6, when NCB officials intercepted two trucks following a tip-off, according to an official statement.
A thorough search of the vehicles led investigators to discover specially fabricated cavities inside the fuel tanks, where the narcotic substances had been concealed to evade detection.
The two arrested persons are residents of Bishnupur district in Manipur, the agency said. Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment originated in Myanmar and was being transported through India, the NCB stated.
The agency described the seizure as a significant disruption of a major drug trafficking attempt and said further investigations were underway to identify those involved in the network.
The probe will focus on tracing the international suppliers, domestic receivers, financiers, transporters and handlers, along with other individuals suspected of facilitating the movement of the contraband. The NCB said it aims to establish the complete supply chain and dismantle the network responsible for trafficking the drugs.
In a separate operation, the NCB's Guwahati unit apprehended six persons wanted in various cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, as part of a special initiative called the 'Absconder Drive Fortnight'.
Of the six persons arrested, two are residents of Assam, while the others hail from Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura, the agency said. The two operations form part of the bureau's efforts to curb drug trafficking and apprehend individuals allegedly involved in narcotics-related offences.
The NCB has not disclosed further details about the identities of those arrested or the suspected trafficking network. Further investigation into the seized consignment and the wider supply chain is continuing.
