
Navy personnel from Agra arrested for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s ISI
The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a 24-year-old Indian Navy personnel for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) , officials said on Tuesday.
According to the ATS, the accused has been identified as Adarsh Kumar alias Lucky, a resident of Agra in Uttar Pradesh, who was serving as a lance naik with the Southern Naval Command in Kochi, Kerala.
In a press statement, the ATS said it had received intelligence inputs suggesting that an individual was in contact with a Pakistan-based ISI agent and was allegedly passing on sensitive information related to India’s defence establishments.
Acting on the inputs, the agency launched an investigation involving electronic and physical surveillance . During the probe, investigators identified Adarsh Kumar as the suspect allegedly involved in the espionage activities.
According to the ATS, the investigation revealed that Kumar had established contact with an ISI handler in Pakistan and was in communication with the agent for some time. The agency also alleged that he transferred money from his bank account to the handler, indicating a possible financial link with the foreign intelligence network.
Officials further claimed that the accused shared photographs of strategically sensitive naval assets, including warships, which could potentially compromise security.
Following confirmation of these details during the investigation, the ATS arrested Kumar on Monday for alleged anti-national activities and links with the Pakistan-based intelligence network, the statement said.
He was produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody .
Authorities have not indicated any connection between the accused and specific terror attacks , and the allegations at present relate to espionage and the sharing of sensitive naval information with a Pakistan-based handler. The investigation is continuing to determine the full extent of the suspected network and information leak.
