Naval Dockyard Visakhapatnam Opens Applications for 320 Apprentice Posts

The Naval Dockyard Apprentices School (DAS), Visakhapatnam, has issued a notification inviting online applications for 320 apprentice positions for the 2025–26 training year. The recruitment notification, released under Advt. No. DAS(V)/01/25, has been made available on the official website joinindiannavy.gov.in, and applications have been invited until January 2, 2026.

According to the notification, candidates possessing 10th (Matriculation) and ITI qualification in relevant trades from recognised institutions will be considered eligible. Certificates that do not specify marks, grades, or percentages have been stated as unacceptable. Applicants are required to be Indian citizens, as laid down in the official guidelines.

A total of 320 vacancies have been announced across designated trades, including Fitter, Electrician, Mechanic Diesel, Pipe Fitter, Welder, Electronics Mechanic, Machinist, Painter, COAPA, Sheet Metal Worker, Shipwright (Wood), Mechanic Mechatronics and others. The highest number of vacancies has been allotted to the Fitter trade (60 posts), followed by Electrician (35 posts) and Mechanic Diesel (32 posts).

The age eligibility has been specified in accordance with The Apprentices Act, 1961 and guidelines issued by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE). A minimum age of 14 years has been mandated for non-hazardous trades, while a minimum age of 18 years has been prescribed for hazardous trades. As per MSDE’s memorandum dated December 20, 2021, no upper age restriction has been applied for apprenticeship training. Candidates born on or before May 2, 2012, are eligible for non-hazardous trades, while those born on or before May 2, 2008, are eligible for hazardous categories. Age relaxations for reserved categories will be provided according to government norms.

The selection process is expected to be carried out in several stages. A written examination will be conducted on March 22, 2026 (forenoon), followed by the declaration of results on March 25, 2026. Candidates shortlisted through the written test will be called for document verification at DAS, Visakhapatnam, on March 30, 2026, which will be followed by a medical examination from March 31, 2026 onwards.

A monthly stipend between ₹9,600 and ₹10,560 will be provided to selected apprentices. The stipend structure has been fixed in accordance with Section 13 of The Apprentices Act, 1961, The Apprenticeship Rules, 1992, and subsequent amendments issued in 2019 and 2025, along with MSDE memoranda dated September 15 and September 23, 2025.

Applications have been required to be submitted online, and candidates have been instructed to upload the necessary documents, including photographs, signatures, and educational certificates. As part of the application process, candidates must also send a self-addressed envelope affixed with postal stamps worth ₹55, which will be used for dispatching the hall ticket through Speed Post. No separate online examination fee has been specified in the notification.

Interested candidates have been advised to review the detailed notification before submitting their applications. The online application portal will remain open until January 2, 2026, and all documents must be uploaded accurately to avoid rejection during scrutiny.
