The National Saras Mela–2026 in Vijayawada has recorded approximately ₹7 crore in business so far, reflecting growing demand for products made by women’s self-help groups and traditional artisans from across the country. A.N.V. Nanchararao, Project Director of the NTR District Rural Development Agency (DRDA), said the fair, being held at Punnami Ghat from October 13 to 31, provides a platform for rural entrepreneurs to showcase their products, reach new customers and strengthen their livelihoods.

The fair features 587 stalls, of which 210 have been allotted to women’s self-help groups from Andhra Pradesh. Handicrafts, handloom textiles, household products and food items are among the major attractions, drawing visitors interested in traditional goods and locally made products. Officials said free stall facilities have helped women entrepreneurs market their products without the additional financial burden of renting exhibition space.

A dedicated food court with 50 stalls under the Kudumbashree initiative offers traditional cuisines from different states. The fair is open to visitors free of charge, while cultural programmes are being organised for two hours every evening from October 21 to 31.

NTR District Collector Dr G. Lakshmi Sha has called on officials to encourage at least one person from every rural and urban household to become an entrepreneur. During his visit to the fair, he interacted with women entrepreneurs and artisans, examining their products, manufacturing methods, quality standards and marketing opportunities.

The Collector stressed the importance of improving market access for women-led enterprises and establishing direct links between producers and buyers. He directed officials to work towards doubling the number of women entrepreneurs participating in the next edition of the Saras Mela.

Emphasising the role of digital platforms in promoting small businesses, the Collector urged social media influencers and content creators to publicise the fair. He encouraged them to showcase entrepreneurs’ success stories, product uniqueness and traditional craftsmanship through reels, videos and blogs to attract more customers.

A welcome robot has also been introduced as a special attraction. The Collector inspected the stalls and reviewed the functioning of mobile ATMs arranged for visitors. He directed officials to maintain proper sanitation, drinking water, security and medical facilities throughout the event.
