Nashik Jolted by 4.3-Magnitude Quake, Tremors Trigger Panic, Cracks Found in Houses

A 4.3-magnitude earthquake followed by another tremor shook parts of Maharashtra’s Nashik district, sending residents rushing out of their homes in panic and leaving cracks in the walls of some houses. No casualties or major structural damage have been reported so far.

According to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS), the earthquake struck at around 10 pm on Saturday, while a 3.3-magnitude tremor was recorded at 5.33 am on Sunday. Both seismic events were recorded at a depth of about five kilometres in the Bhanwad area, near the Hatgad mountain range close to the Maharashtra-Gujarat border.

Tremors were felt across several parts of Nashik district, including Nashik city, Surgana, Kalwan, Deola, Chandwad, Peth, Dindori and Niphad. The sudden shaking triggered alarm among residents, with many stepping outside their houses as a precaution.

District administration officials said cracks developed in the walls of houses in Bhadar village in Surgana taluka and Nanashi in Dindori taluka. Authorities have not reported any loss of life or injuries.

Officials also inspected dams in the affected areas as a precautionary measure. No damage to the dams was found, the district administration said.

District Collector Ayush Prasad urged residents to remain calm but vigilant, asking them not to pay attention to rumours or unverified information following the tremors.

The latest seismic activity comes against the backdrop of repeated tremors in the district. Nashik had experienced tremors between July 25 and 28, followed by another episode on August 6.
