A court in Nashik on Saturday rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Nida Khan , an accused in a case involving alleged sexual harassment and forcible religious conversion at the Nashik unit of Tata Consultancy Services.

The prosecution opposed the plea, arguing that the allegations are serious in nature and require custodial interrogation . Public prosecutor Ajay Misar told reporters that Khan is a prime accused , and her questioning in custody is necessary for an effective investigation. “The offence is serious, and custodial interrogation is required. The court has rejected her anticipatory bail application. The detailed order will be uploaded soon,” he said.

According to the First Information Report (FIR) , Khan allegedly advised women employees to dress and behave in accordance with Islamic traditions , which forms part of the wider allegations being examined by investigators.

Complaints filed by several women employees also point to repeated harassment, intimidation, and inappropriate behaviour by male colleagues. Some of the incidents have been described as involving unwanted physical advances and coercive conduct within the workplace , raising concerns over employee safety and workplace culture at the unit.

Khan had sought pre-arrest bail citing her pregnancy , requesting protection from arrest. However, the court declined relief at this stage, accepting the prosecution’s argument on the necessity of custodial questioning.

Police earlier said that a search operation is underway to trace Khan across different parts of Maharashtra .

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Nashik Police is probing nine cases linked to the alleged incidents at the company’s Nashik unit. So far, the SIT has arrested eight persons , including a female operations manager , after registering nine FIRs in connection with the complaints.

In response to the developments, Tata Consultancy Services had earlier reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards harassment and coercion , stating that such principles have long been part of its workplace standards.
