Nashik Bhavali Dam Attack: Three Key Accused Arrested, Total Held Rises to 12

Police in Maharashtra’s Nashik district have arrested three more suspects identified as key accused in the Bhavali Dam family assault case , taking the total number of arrests in the case to 12 . The action follows a violent attack on a family visiting a tourist spot in Igatpuri taluka , which gained widespread attention after a video of the incident surfaced online.

The incident occurred on July 12 near Bhavali Dam when a family visiting a waterfall allegedly faced harassment by a group of youths. According to the complaint filed by a 44-year-old woman, the situation turned violent after family members confronted two youths who were allegedly misbehaving with her.

The complaint stated that the group allegedly attacked the family, damaged their vehicle, and threatened those inside with bats and sticks. The woman also alleged that the accused tore her clothes and took away her gold chain and mobile phone during the assault. A video showing one of the accused holding onto the door of the family’s moving vehicle later went viral, leading to public anger and demands for strict action.

Following the complaint, police registered a case at Igatpuri police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) . Nine suspects were arrested earlier in connection with the attack and were sent to police custody.

The latest arrests include Rahul Bhoru Bhagde (26), Akash Chandrakant Bhoir (27), and Kailas Ashok Bhagde (28) . Police said the trio was traced and arrested from Mundegaon Shivar near the Mumbai–Agra highway based on information received during the investigation.

Officials said that Akash Bhoir and Kailas Bhagde have previous criminal records, with one murder case registered against each of them. Investigators are now examining the individual roles of all accused and collecting further evidence related to the attack.

The case has raised concerns over the safety of tourists at popular weekend destinations in Maharashtra. Police have assured that further investigation is underway and strict action will be taken against those found involved in the assault.
