Nandigama Set for Historic Municipal Leadership: MLA Sowmya

The nomination process for candidates contesting the Nandigama municipal elections witnessed an enthusiastic show of strength on Sunday, as leaders and workers of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Jana Sena and BJP joined a rally led by Government Whip and Nandigama MLA Tangirala Sowmya.

Municipal chairperson candidate Shakhamuri Vamsidhar, along with the alliance’s ward candidates, filed their nominations amid slogans, party flags and enthusiastic participation by supporters of all three parties.

The rally began at the MLA’s office in Kakani Nagar, passed through Gandhi Centre and proceeded to Babu Jagjivan Ram Bhavan at the Old Bus Stand Centre, where the nomination programme took place.

Addressing the gathering, Sowmya expressed confidence that Nandigama would witness the formation of a historic municipal leadership. She said the coalition government had brought more than Rs 154 crore in funds to Nandigama Municipality over the past two years, underlining its commitment to the town’s development.

She said work was progressing on a Rs 103-crore project to provide Krishna drinking water to every household. Other proposed works include the completion of pending cement concrete roads, construction of a new municipal office and park, installation of central dividers, and improvements to street lighting, with an allocation of Rs 19 crore.

Sowmya further announced plans to establish a permanent drainage system across the town at a cost of Rs 17 crore. She said the establishment of a Kendriya Vidyalaya and the modernisation of the 100-bed hospital would provide additional momentum to Nandigama’s development.

Clarifying that the initiatives were not merely election promises, she said funds had already been sanctioned and work had begun on development projects.

Vamsidhar assured voters that he would work for the town’s progress in coordination with the alliance’s 32 ward members. Sowmya appealed to the public to support the unity of the three parties and elect Vamsidhar and all alliance candidates with substantial majorities.
