Nandi Medaram Reservoir Releases Water to Support Farmers
Water lifting operations have begun from the Nandi Medaram Reservoir under the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project , bringing fresh hope to farmers across parts of Telangana during the ongoing rabi (yasangi) season .
Officials started pumping water from the reservoir located in Nandi Medaram village, Dharmaram mandal, in Peddapalli district. The move is expected to ensure timely irrigation for crops and provide much-needed support to farmers who depend on an assured water supply during the dry season.
The Kaleshwaram project, constructed during the previous K. Chandrashekar Rao-led government, has emerged as a key lifeline for the state’s agriculture sector. By lifting Godavari river water to higher elevations, the project has helped drought-prone and rain-fed regions gain access to reliable irrigation.
With the release of water from Nandi Medaram, farmers in the surrounding areas are optimistic about cultivating paddy and other crops with greater confidence. The availability of irrigation water at this stage of the season is expected to boost farm activity, improve crop yields, and reduce dependence on rainfall.
Over the years, the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project has played a major role in expanding irrigated areas , increasing agricultural productivity , and improving farmers’ incomes . As water begins to flow through canals from the reservoir to agricultural fields , farmers believe the project will once again provide crucial support during the rabi season , reinforcing its importance to Telangana’s rural economy .
