Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said the proposed Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) will be a major growth centre for the state, with improved airport connectivity, road infrastructure and drinking-water facilities forming key parts of its development plan.

Describing NAINA as “Third Mumbai”, Fadnavis said the planned urban centre could drive economic growth across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region over the coming decades.

Speaking at an event to launch development works in NAINA and inaugurate the Uran bypass road in Raigad district, the chief minister said connectivity projects would improve access to the Navi Mumbai International Airport. He said commuters could travel from Worli in central Mumbai to the airport without encountering a traffic signal within the next six to eight months, citing the Atal Setu and other planned connections.

The government’s infrastructure push also includes road links intended to improve movement between Mumbai, Navi Mumbai and adjoining areas. The projects are expected to support regional connectivity as development expands around the airport.

Fadnavis said the government was preparing an integrated water-supply plan for developing areas of Raigad and Thane districts. He emphasised that urban expansion must be supported by drinking-water sources alongside roads, drainage systems and street lighting.

The chief minister said the government would work to ensure water supplies for municipal corporations, municipal councils and villages in the expanding region.

He also highlighted the importance of addressing farmers’ concerns over land allotments under the NAINA project. According to Fadnavis, the government has authorised CIDCO to correct errors in the final development plan, including overlapping plots, incorrect plot numbers and discrepancies in land ownership records.

The distribution of land documents to affected farmers has begun, with issues being addressed village by village, he said. CIDCO has also published a booklet explaining the entitlements of project-affected people, including provisions relating to developed plots and floor space index.

Fadnavis said the government would remain available until farmers’ grievances were resolved, adding that local residents should benefit from the region’s development.
