Muzaffarnagar police take down 55 mosque loudspeakers for violating noise norms

Police in Muzaffarnagar have launched an enforcement drive against illegal or excessively loud public-address systems, removing more than 55 loudspeakers from mosques across the city for alleged violations of Supreme Court–mandated sound limits, officials said on Wednesday.

According to police, the action was carried out in the Civil Lines, Kotwali and Khalapar police station areas as part of a broader campaign to ensure all religious establishments follow noise regulations. The removed loudspeakers were found operating beyond permissible sound levels or without required compliance with guidelines.

Circle Officer (City) Sidharth Mishra said district authorities have already issued instructions to caretakers of mosques, temples and gurdwaras to strictly follow directives laid down by the Supreme Court and the state government regarding the installation and use of loudspeakers.

He added that the ongoing drive is aimed at ensuring that all existing sound systems operate within legal decibel limits, stressing that the enforcement would remain uniform across all religious places.

Police officials indicated that compliance checks will continue in the coming days.
