Mushfiqur Rahim Scores Century in 100th Test, Becomes First Bangladeshi to Reach Milestone

Bangladesh cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim was placed in an elite group of international batters after a century was scored by him in his 100th Test match, a rare feat achieved by only a few players in the history of the sport. The milestone match was played against Ireland in the ongoing second Test in Dhaka.

Rahim was also celebrated as the first-ever Bangladesh player to have reached the landmark of 100 Test appearances, marking a major moment for the country’s cricket history. His knock of 106 runs off 214 balls was produced after he resumed Day 2 on his overnight score of 99. The innings was crafted with patience and included five boundaries, placing Bangladesh in a dominant position in the match.

With this effort, Rahim was added to the short list of players who have scored a century in their 100th Test. The distinguished list includes Colin Cowdrey, Javed Miandad, Gordon Greenidge, Graeme Smith, Ricky Ponting, Joe Root, and David Warner. Ponting remains the only batter to have scored centuries in both innings of his 100th Test, achieved against South Africa in 2006.

Bangladesh had earlier finished Day 1 at 292 for 4, after electing to bat first. Rahim’s century, the 13th of his Test career, has strengthened Bangladesh’s chances of securing a clean sweep in the two-match series. The hosts are already leading 1–0, after a win by an innings and 47 runs was secured in the first Test in Sylhet.

The achievement has been viewed as a major personal milestone for Rahim and a significant moment for Bangladesh cricket, highlighting his long-standing contribution to the national team.
