President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday greeted Indian Air Force personnel, veterans and their families on Air Force Day, praising the force for its exemplary service and dedication to the nation.

In a message posted on X, Murmu said the IAF has rendered exemplary service while maintaining high standards of professionalism, discipline and preparedness.

“Greetings to all air warriors, veterans and their families on Air Force Day,” the President said. She said Operation Sindoor demonstrated the courage, precision and operational preparedness of air warriors in safeguarding the country. Murmu also highlighted the IAF's contribution during disasters and humanitarian crises, saying its personnel have extended valuable assistance in times of need.

“Their dedication remains a source of inspiration and pride for the nation,” she said, wishing the Indian Air Force continued success in upholding its legacy of service and excellence. Air Force Day is observed annually on October 8 to commemorate the establishment of the Indian Air Force and honour the sacrifices and contributions of its personnel.

The IAF was established on October 8, 1932, and has since developed into a key component of India's defence capabilities. The occasion is marked by ceremonies and events showcasing the force's aircraft, personnel and operational capabilities, while paying tribute to air warriors who have served the country.

The IAF's responsibilities extend beyond combat operations and include air defence, strategic airlift, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief. Murmu's message underlined the force's role in both national security and emergency response, while acknowledging the commitment of its personnel and veterans.

The Air Force Day celebrations provide an opportunity to recognise the service of air warriors and reaffirm the importance of maintaining operational readiness to meet India's evolving security requirements.

The President's greetings also acknowledged the families of serving and retired personnel, whose support remains an important part of the IAF community. The occasion brings together serving personnel, veterans and their families to commemorate the force's history and contributions to the country.
