
Municipal poll nominations close in Telangana as scrutiny today
With the announcement of the municipal election schedule, the political atmosphere in Telangana has heated up sharply. As per the schedule notified by the State Election Commission, the deadline for filing nominations ended on Friday. Being the last day, candidates from major political parties as well as independents turned up in large numbers across the state, submitting nominations amid massive rallies.
Election officials will scrutinise the nominations filed by candidates today. The scrutiny will focus on eligibility criteria and the validity of documents submitted. Candidates have been given time until February 3 to withdraw their nominations. On the same day, February 3, the State Election Commission will release the final list of candidates contesting the elections in the evening.
According to the election schedule, polling will be held on February 11, while counting of votes will take place on February 13, followed by the declaration of results. Elections are being conducted for 7 municipal corporations and 116 municipalities across the state, for which the schedule has already been issued. With the municipal elections approaching, the political climate in urban areas has intensified, and candidates and political parties are gearing up to campaign aggressively to woo voters.
