Mumbai Man Orders Food Through Zomato for Protesters at Jantar Mantar, Wins Internet

A Mumbai resident has won widespread praise after ordering food through Zomato for protesters camping at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi, ensuring they did not go hungry during the ongoing demonstrations. What began as a single act of kindness soon snowballed into a larger wave of public support, with strangers from across India also sending food through delivery apps.

The man, identified as Anuj Rawat from Mumbai, reportedly placed the order from over 1,500 kilometres away. His delivery note read: "Please give this meal to whoever looks hungry at Jantar Mantar." A video of a Zomato delivery partner reading out the message and handing over the food quickly went viral, drawing admiration across social media.

According to videos shared online, the deliveries started with cakes before more food kept arriving throughout the day, including burgers, Domino's pizzas, rolls, biryani, tea, and snacks. Protesters said the deliveries continued for hours, helping people who had been demonstrating since morning and boosting morale despite heavy rain and long hours at the protest site.

The gesture also inspired many others. Soon, Zomato, Swiggy, and other delivery app orders began pouring into Jantar Mantar from anonymous supporters across the country. Videos showed volunteers collecting and distributing meals among protesters, while several delivery partners continued making trips despite the weather.

The latest food deliveries echo another show of solidarity seen on June 20, when the protest first gained nationwide attention. As students from different states wanted to join the demonstrations in Delhi, supporters who could not attend reportedly booked train tickets and arranged travel for several protesters, while others contributed food, water, and essential supplies after organisers alleged restrictions on access to basic necessities at the protest site.

The protests, led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and other examination issues, have drawn thousands of students demanding accountability and education reforms. While the movement has witnessed clashes with police and political controversy, the stream of anonymous food deliveries has emerged as one of its most heartwarming stories, with many online calling it a reminder that compassion can transcend distance and differences.
