Mumbai Airport Network Outage Disrupts Check-ins, 327 Flights Delayed

A network disruption at Mumbai International Airport on Tuesday evening affected passenger-processing systems, prompting airport staff to switch to manual check-in procedures. The disruption reportedly began around 7 pm and lasted approximately an hour, though the airport operator did not disclose its exact duration or cause.

Mumbai International Airport Ltd (MIAL), which operates the airport, said its teams introduced manual processing to minimise passenger inconvenience and maintain essential services.

“ So far there has been no impact on airport and flight operations,” the operator said in a statement issued after the disruption. It did not specify the technical issue responsible for the network failure.

The disruption reportedly affected check-in counters, boarding e-gates and DigiYatra services, slowing passenger processing. Airport and airline staff shifted to manual procedures while teams worked to address the issue.

However, flight-tracking data showed delays across airport services that evening. According to Flightradar24, departures recorded an average delay of 50 minutes, with 327 flights delayed by around 9.30 pm. The platform also reported that 13 per cent of flights were cancelled.

The figures covered flight movements at the airport and did not establish how many delays or cancellations were directly attributable to the network disruption.

The outage affected passenger-processing systems during the evening, while the airport operator maintained that essential operations continued. MIAL did not provide a detailed breakdown of the affected flights or passengers, nor did it identify the source of the technical problem.

The precise contribution of the network disruption to the reported flight delays and cancellations remained unclear.
