Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik produced a remarkable late comeback to reach the US Open mixed doubles final, where they will face Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli in a showdown featuring two teams that survived dramatic semifinal battles.

The Czech pair looked headed for defeat against Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev, trailing 9-7 in the match tiebreaker and facing two match points. But Muchova and Mensik refused to surrender, winning the final four points to seal a thrilling 5-4 (6), 3-5 (11-9) victory.

Mensik's powerful serving proved decisive in the closing moments, helping the Czech duo complete a stunning turnaround and move within one win of the $1 million prize.

Earlier, Bencic and Cobolli ended the fairytale run of married couple Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils, recovering from the loss of the opening set to win 4-5 (7), 4-1 (10-5).

The Swiss-Italian pairing had already made headlines by knocking out Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals. Against Svitolina and Monfils, they again showed their resilience, raising their level in the second set before taking control of the deciding match tiebreaker.

For Monfils, the defeat ended his final mixed doubles appearance at a Grand Slam before his planned retirement. The veteran, who turns 40 on September 1, had teamed up with his wife Svitolina for the first time in the event.

The mixed doubles competition, played under its revamped format for the second consecutive year, has featured several major upsets. Star pairings including Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic, Alex Eala and Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Jessica Pegula and Taylor Fritz were eliminated early.

Now, after two dramatic semifinals, the title will be decided between Bencic-Cobolli and Muchova-Mensik, with $1 million and the US Open trophy at stake.
