Muchova and Mensik Become Grand Slam Champions for the First Time

Karolina Muchova and Jakub Mensik turned a tournament filled with match-tiebreak drama into a memorable Grand Slam triumph, defeating Belinda Bencic and Flavio Cobolli to win the US Open mixed doubles title.

The Czech pair sealed the championship with a 6-3, 1-6, 10-6 victory, with Mensik firing an ace on the final point to secure the title and the $1 million prize money shared by the winners.

Their path to the trophy, however, was far from straightforward. In the semifinals, Muchova and Mensik were one point away from elimination against Mirra Andreeva and Andrey Rublev. The Czech duo faced two match points but held their nerve, winning the final four points to complete a dramatic 5-4 (6), 3-5, 11-9 comeback.

The final followed the same pattern of momentum swings. Muchova and Mensik dominated the opening set before Bencic and Cobolli hit back strongly to level the contest. But when the championship came down to the deciding match tiebreak, the Czech pair once again delivered under pressure.

Mensik's powerful serving and sharp work at the net proved crucial throughout the tournament, while Muchova's composure helped the pair recover from difficult situations. Their partnership had begun in a light-hearted fashion, with Mensik messaging Muchova before the tournament to coordinate their matching pink and maroon outfits.

“I think at the end, really the matching outfit made the difference for us,” Muchova joked after the victory.

The tournament featured several high-profile exits, with teams involving Serena Williams and Carlos Alcaraz, Aryna Sabalenka and Novak Djokovic, and other leading singles stars falling early.

Bencic and Cobolli had earlier ended the run of Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils in the semifinals. But on the final night, Muchova and Mensik produced the decisive fightback.

From surviving match points to celebrating a Grand Slam title, the Czech duo showed that resilience can be just as valuable as power, precision and talent.
