MP’s largest narcotics bust: CBN seizes nearly 52 kg meth, 260 kg chemicals and equipment
In a massive anti-narcotics operation in the state, the Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) has dismantled a fully operational clandestine methamphetamine laboratory , seizing a total of 51.992 kg of high-purity MD (Methylenedioxy-methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth), along with more than 260 kg of precursor chemicals (drug-making ingredients)and sophisticated manufacturing equipment. Three individuals have been arrested , and investigations are ongoing to uncover the larger network behind the operation.
The case began on the night of February 13, 2026 , when the CBN’s Neemuch branch received intelligence about a drug consignment being transported by bus. Acting swiftly, officers intercepted the vehicle at Mandsaur and recovered 8.172 kg of crystal methamphetamine from two passengers, who were carrying the contraband in concealed boxes. Both accused admitted that the drugs had been sourced from a secret manufacturing facility.
Further interrogation revealed that the meth had been produced at a clandestine laboratory in Village Thavalay, Mhow tehsil, Indore district . A joint team of CBN officers traced the facility, but strong chemical fumes delayed entry. A specialised team equipped with protective gear was then deployed to safely enter the premises.
Inside, officers discovered a fully functional synthetic drug lab fitted with modern machinery capable of large-scale production . They seized 43.820 kg of high-quality MD , along with large quantities of chemicals used in the manufacturing process. Given the technical complexity of the setup, engineers and chemists from the Government Opium and Alkaloid Works assisted in safely dismantling the plant and equipment.
The operation concluded in the early hours of February 15 . The two men intercepted in Mandsaur have been formally charged under the NDPS Act, 1985 , while the owner of the laboratory has also been detained. Officials believe the lab was part of a larger synthetic drug manufacturing and distribution network, and investigations continue to trace supply chains and other associates involved.
