MP: Teen bludgeoned to death, villagers help nab suspect

A 58-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly murdering a 16-year-old boy in a shocking incident that occurred in Sammana village, located about 7 kilometres from the district headquarters under Dehat police station limits. Police said the attack took place on Thursday and has since sparked widespread concern in the area.

The victim, identified as Bharat Vishwakarma , was a resident of Arthkheda village. According to officials, Bharat had travelled to Sammana to receive a traditional ceremonial ‘tika’ from his sister, Diksha Vishwakarma , who is married and lives in the village.

Police said Bharat was riding a motorcycle when the accused, Gudda Patel , suddenly attacked him using an iron rod and a hammer . The brutal assault resulted in Bharat’s death on the spot. A relative who was accompanying the teenager during the visit managed to escape the scene during the attack and later alerted others.

Following the incident, Patel allegedly fled toward nearby agricultural fields while still carrying the weapons used in the attack. Villagers soon noticed the situation and surrounded the accused, pelting stones at him before police personnel arrived and took him into custody.

Authorities are also examining a viral video circulating on social media that claims the accused engaged in acts of cannibalism by consuming a part of the victim’s brain and drinking his blood. Police officials said the authenticity of these claims is still under investigation and has not yet been confirmed.

City Superintendent of Police H R Pandey said further investigation is underway. He added that the accused had previously served a prison sentence for the murder of his wife and was released from jail around two years ago.

Meanwhile, relatives of the victim have demanded strict punishment, including the death penalty , for the accused.
