MP IPS officer urges Madrasa students to read Bhagavad Gita alongside Quran

A senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer in Madhya Pradesh has encouraged students of a madrasa to study the Bhagavad Gita along with the Quran , saying it could “enlighten their path.”

Raja Babu Singh, Additional Director General of Police (Training), addressed students of a madrasa in Doraha village, Sehore district, via video conference on Republic Day. He highlighted the importance of moral education, environmental awareness, scientific temper, and tolerance in shaping students’ character.

“The maulana of the madrasa is an old friend, and he invited me to speak to the students on Republic Day. I congratulated them on the education they are receiving and encouraged them to uphold the values of integrity and unity, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari,” Singh told PTI.

Singh, a 1994-batch IPS officer who has previously served as Inspector General of the Border Security Force in Kashmir, also mentioned that the Bhagavad Gita has been a source of guidance for humanity for centuries. He suggested that learning from texts of multiple religious traditions could provide wisdom and perspective.

This is not the first time Singh has promoted Hindu scriptures in his professional capacity. Earlier, he directed all police training schools in Madhya Pradesh to hold recitals of the Bhagavad Gita and Ramcharitmanas , saying it helps recruits lead a righteous life.

No formal complaints or public reactions from parents have been reported so far in response to his address.
