MP Etela Rajender voices concern over Jawahar Nagar dump yard, cites threat to residents’ health

BJP MP Etela Rajender, along with party leaders, inspected the Jawahar Nagar dump yard in Medchal-Malkajgiri district and expressed deep concern over the severe hardships faced by local residents due to unchecked waste disposal.

Highlighting the drastic increase in garbage, Etela noted that while the dump yard was originally set up in a sparsely populated area and handled about 300 tons of waste daily, it now receives nearly 10,000 metric tons, creating serious health and environmental issues.

According to Etela, communities in Dammayiguda, Jawahar Nagar, Narapalli, and Ghatkesar are suffering from severe health problems caused by the dump yard. He said uncovered garbage trucks frequently spill waste onto roads, homes, and people, leading to respiratory issues, skin diseases, and other serious illnesses. Some families have even reported difficulties in having children due to the pollution.

Etela criticized the state government for ignoring repeated directives from the National Green Tribunal. Despite promises made in 2017 to establish new dumping sites around the city, the plans remain unimplemented. He also highlighted that the Tribunal’s orders in 2021, 2022, and 2025 have not been acted upon, resulting in contaminated lakes and polluted groundwater.

He further condemned attacks on villagers who tried to stop garbage trucks, citing a recent assault on a local youth named Shankar.

Etela pointed out that the Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is well aware of the residents’ plight, yet no solutions have been implemented. Warning of strong protests if the government fails to act, he said the BJP is prepared to organize sit-ins and demonstrations with local residents.

The inspection was attended by district BJP leaders including Buddha Srinivas, former president P. Vikram Reddy, in-charge Sudarshan Reddy, vice-president G. Jagan Goud, and councillor Samudraal Hamsarani.
