Moolapeta Port Works Accelerate: Minister Janardhan Reddy

The greenfield port at Moolapeta in Srikakulam district has reached around 60% physical progress, according to the latest available data, with work continuing to gather pace.

Industries and Infrastructure Minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy said the government is expediting construction and aims to strengthen the State’s port network by completing key projects, including Ramayapatnam and Machilipatnam , by 2026 .

The project timeline has been revised, with completion now expected by late 2026 following delays linked to land acquisition, weather conditions and logistical challenges.

A major bottleneck was cleared after the Centre approved the transfer of 385.24 acres of salt land required for the project, enabling faster execution of pending works.

While the government has highlighted progress in recent months, detailed component-wise figures are not available in the public domain. Claims regarding expenditure and earlier progress remain part of the ongoing political exchange between the ruling coalition and the opposition.

Officials said parallel efforts are underway on onshore infrastructure and rehabilitation measures in affected villages to ensure steady progress.

Once operational, the Moolapeta port is expected to boost maritime trade and support industrial growth in north coastal Andhra Pradesh, contributing to the State’s long-term infrastructure strategy.
