'Montha' cyclone impact, R&B department on high alert

Heavy rains continue to lash several parts of Telangana as the “Montha” cyclone impacts the state. In response, the government has initiated emergency measures and directed the Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department to remain on high alert.

Minister for Roads and Buildings Komatireddy Venkat Reddy held a review meeting with senior officials, including the Engineer-in-Chief (ENC), Chief Engineers (CS), and Superintending Engineers (SE), instructing them to take immediate field-level action. He emphasized that all officers must closely monitor the ground situation and avoid taking leave during this critical period unless absolutely necessary.

To prevent accidents, the minister ordered that warning boards and barricades be installed near low-lying areas, culverts, and causeways prone to flooding. He also directed officials to work in coordination with Police, Revenue, Irrigation, and Electricity departments to ensure a unified response.

A special control centre has been established at the R&B headquarters in Hyderabad to maintain continuous communication with all district offices and monitor developments in real time. Officials have also been instructed to identify alternative routes to ensure that public transportation remains uninterrupted.

Minister Komatireddy appreciated the efforts of R&B engineers during the monsoon season and urged them to maintain the same level of vigilance and commitment under the current weather conditions.

He appealed to the public to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary and follow the safety instructions issued by local authorities. The minister assured that the state government is coordinating across departments to minimize the cyclone’s impact and ensure public safety.
