Montha Cyclone approaching Kakinada, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan orders vigilance

In light of warnings from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) about Cyclone Montha forming in the Bay of Bengal, the Andhra Pradesh government has urged heightened preparedness in Kakinada district. The cyclone is likely to make landfall in and around Kakinada, potentially affecting nearby coastal areas.

State Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan held a teleconference with Kakinada District Collector Shan Mohan on Saturday, emphasizing the need for proactive disaster management. He instructed the district administration to keep the public informed and alert, particularly residents in villages along the coast.

“Ensure that people are made aware of the cyclone in advance. Take all necessary precautions to safeguard communities, particularly in low-lying and coastal areas,” Pawan Kalyan said. “Make essential supplies, including food, medicines, and milk, available in cyclone shelters. All departments Revenue, Agriculture, Irrigation, Police, Fire Services, and the Disaster Response Force must be prepared. Alert fishermen and monitor areas like Uppada prone to coastal erosion.”

The IMD has forecasted that the cyclone could significantly impact Tuni, Pithapuram, Kakinada Rural, Kakinada Urban constituencies, and Tallarevu mandal. The Deputy Chief Minister also inquired about the status of the Yeleru reservoir, which is nearing full capacity. The District Collector confirmed that proper warnings will be issued before any water release, and coordination with irrigation officials will continue to inform farmers and local residents in the Pithapuram and Peddapuram constituencies.

While Pawan Kalyan expressed readiness to visit Kakinada, the District Collector recommended that such a visit may not be feasible at this stage, as the administration is fully engaged in cyclone preparedness and relief planning.
