Moinabad Drug Case: BRS Issues Notice to Rohith Reddy, Bars Him from Party Activities

A late-night police raid on a farmhouse in Moinabad has snowballed into a high-stakes political controversy, prompting the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) to act against its former MLA Pilot Rohith Reddy , who is now facing serious allegations in a drug case involving narcotics use and a firearms incident.

Acting on the directions of party chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) , the BRS leadership issued a show-cause notice to Rohith Reddy and barred him from all party activities, citing reputational damage. The party has directed him to submit a written explanation within one week, warning that failure to do so would invite stricter disciplinary action under its rules.

The controversy originates from a March 14 raid conducted by the Telangana Police’s anti-narcotics wing, the Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement (EAGLE) , at Rohith Reddy’s Moinabad farmhouse. Acting on specific intelligence, officials raided what they suspected to be a private gathering and found evidence pointing to drug consumption . Around ten individuals, including politicians, real estate players, and businessmen, were present at the venue, and several later tested positive for narcotic substances such as cocaine and methamphetamine. A small quantity of drugs was also seized during the operation.

The situation escalated further when gunfire was reported during the raid. Police stated that Delhi-based businessman Namit Sharma allegedly fired rounds using a licensed weapon belonging to Rohith Reddy’s brother Ritesh Reddy . Following the incident, authorities invoked sections under the NDPS Act , Arms Act , and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) , and registered an attempt to murder case against Sharma. Rohith Reddy, his brother, and Sharma were subsequently remanded to judicial custody, while others present were questioned and later released on bail.

In view of the seriousness of the case, the Telangana government has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Chevella DCP Yogesh Gautam to conduct a detailed probe. The SIT has been tasked with identifying the drug network , tracing supply chains, and examining financial and digital links of those involved. Officials are also assessing whether the farmhouse was knowingly used for illegal activities, with further action likely based on the findings.

The episode has triggered sharp political reactions, with opposition parties alleging a growing drug culture among influential circles and demanding accountability. With individuals linked to multiple political and business backgrounds under scrutiny, the Moinabad farmhouse case has evolved into a major political flashpoint, raising broader concerns about governance, public conduct, and law enforcement in Telangana.
