Mohan Bhagwat Visits ISKCON’s Historic New York Birthplace, Highlights Message Of Unity

RSS Sarsanghchalak Dr. Mohan Bhagwat visited the historic ISKCON temple at 26 Second Avenue in New York City, a site regarded as the birthplace of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness and a landmark in the organisation’s global journey.

During his visit, Bhagwat joined devotees in distributing the 100,000th meal as part of ISKCON’s Zero Hunger initiative, which provides food to homeless and vulnerable people. The milestone added a humanitarian dimension to his visit to the historic site founded around the movement established by Srila Prabhupada in 1966.

Addressing devotees, Bhagwat spoke about the broader message of Krishna Consciousness, particularly its potential to bring people together at a time when conflicts and divisions continue to affect societies around the world. He emphasised the importance of spiritual values that can connect people beyond differences.

The RSS chief also recorded his thoughts in the temple’s visitor book, describing the experience as humbling and expressing his appreciation for the site’s message of pure spiritual love.

The visit brought together two influential strands of India’s spiritual and cultural outreach in a place deeply connected with the history of ISKCON. The organisation’s leaders described Bhagwat’s interaction with devotees and the temple as a significant moment.

The visit also comes ahead of Bhagwat’s scheduled speech at Madison Square Garden, adding further significance to his engagements in New York.

For ISKCON, the Second Avenue address holds special historical importance. It was here that Srila Prabhupada began building the movement that would eventually spread Krishna Consciousness across countries and continents. Bhagwat’s visit therefore connected the organisation’s early history with its continuing humanitarian and spiritual activities in the United States.
