
Mohan Babu, Manchu Vishnu Face Kidnap Case Over Student’s Abduction
Actors Mohan Babu and Manchu Vishnu have been named as prime accused in a sensational student kidnapping case that unfolded near Tiruchanur , on the outskirts of Tirupati . The development comes after police registered a case over the alleged abduction and assault of leaders of the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) , who were on their way to submit a complaint regarding alleged fee irregularities at Mohan Babu University in Chandragiri.
According to police, SFI leader V. Reddy Kumar of Parikidona village in Chowdepalle mandal, SFI general secretary Shaik Ali Akbar, and SVU student leader Vinod Kumar, along with others, left for the Collectorate at around 11.30 am on Tuesday. When they reached Vartha Cross near the Lemon Tree Hotel in Tiruchanur, nearly 30 assailants travelling in three Innova vehicles allegedly intercepted their car. The attackers reportedly assaulted the student leaders, issued threats and forcibly abducted Shaik Ali Akbar and Vinod Kumar, taking them towards Chittoor. The assailants also allegedly took away Akbar’s Royal Enfield motorcycle. The victims later informed police that the attackers claimed links to the university’s PRO and the two actors now named in the FIR .
Following the alert, CPI(M) leader Kandharapu Murali informed District SP L. Subbarayudu, prompting immediate police action. Under the supervision of Tiruchanur CI Sunil Kumar, three special police teams launched a search operation. Within about 90 minutes, officers traced the suspects, rescued the abducted student leaders safely and seized the vehicles used in the offence.
Based on the victims’ complaint, Tiruchanur police registered a case under sections related to kidnapping , criminal conspiracy and assault. University PRO Ravuru Satish was named as A-1 , while Mohan Babu and Manchu Vishnu were listed as A-2 and A-3 . On Wednesday, police arrested 13 persons , including Satish. Additional SP Ravi Manoharachari said preliminary investigations indicated the involvement of university bouncers and a few students. He added that a deeper probe into the role of the university management is underway and warned that strict action would be taken against anyone taking the law into their own hands.
