A 15-year-old land dispute involving Asgar Ali Vora, a former schoolmate of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has moved towards a settlement after he raised the matter directly with the prime minister, according to the account of the dispute.

Vora, who studied with Modi at B N School in Vadnagar, had alleged that his 2,810-square-metre plot in Mira Road, Maharashtra, was taken over in 2011 through forged documents by builders allegedly linked to BJP MLA Narendra Mehta.

The dispute had remained caught between court proceedings and complaints before government authorities for years. Vora’s direct meeting with Modi brought fresh attention to the matter, following which Maharashtra officials convened a meeting involving the parties.

According to the account, Mehta subsequently relinquished possession of the disputed property, surrendered construction permissions and withdrew a complaint filed against Vora.

The two sides then reached a settlement, bringing the long-running dispute closer to closure after nearly a decade and a half of legal and administrative proceedings.
