
Modi Wraps Netherlands Visit with 17 Deals, Heads to Sweden as India Deepens Europe Ties
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday departed for Sweden after concluding a two day official visit to the Netherlands , marking a significant push in India’s engagement with Europe . The visit saw the signing of 17 agreements aimed at expanding cooperation in defence, critical minerals, semiconductors, innovation and other strategic sectors.
During the visit, Modi held wide ranging bilateral discussions with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten in The Hague. Both leaders expressed concern over the evolving situation in West Asia , highlighting its impact on global energy supply chains and international trade networks .
Modi described the Netherlands visit as a major step forward in bilateral relations, noting that both sides had elevated ties to a strategic partnership with a forward looking agenda covering water management, sustainability, mobility, defence , and emerging technologies. He also thanked Jetten for the hospitality and for personally seeing him off at the airport, expressing confidence that the partnership would continue to grow stronger.
A key highlight of the visit was Modi’s interaction with top executives of leading Dutch companies across sectors including energy, ports, agriculture, healthcare , and technology. He invited them to explore greater opportunities in India, particularly in areas such as renewable energy, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, maritime infrastructure and semiconductors.
Before leaving, the Prime Minister also visited the iconic Afsluitdijk Dam along with his Dutch counterpart, underlining growing cooperation in water management and climate resilient infrastructure.
In the next leg of his Europe tour, Modi will hold talks with Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to review bilateral ties and explore new areas of collaboration. Trade between India and Sweden stood at USD 7.75 billion in 2025 , with both sides expected to focus on green transition, artificial intelligence, defence, space, startups and resilient supply chains.
The Prime Minister is also expected to address the European Round Table for Industry along with Ursula von der Leyen , reflecting the growing strategic convergence between India and Europe.
