
Modi to Launch ₹22,600 Cr Mega Development Push Across Gujarat, Daman and Lakshadweep
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to undertake a high impact visit to Gujarat and Daman on June 5, inaugurating, dedicating and laying the foundation stones for a series of major development projects worth more than ₹22,600 crore spanning key sectors including transportation, healthcare, industrial infrastructure, power, civil aviation, tourism and maritime connectivity.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to arrive at Surat Airport at around 2 pm, following which he will proceed to the L&T facility in Hazira to review ongoing industrial operations and infrastructure projects. At around 4:15 pm, he will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation and lay the foundation stone of various development projects worth around ₹18,800 crore in Surat , and address a public gathering on the occasion.
A centrepiece of the Surat programme will be road infrastructure development . The Prime Minister will dedicate Packages VI and VII of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway to the nation, aimed at enhancing high speed transportation, logistics efficiency and economic connectivity between Gujarat and Maharashtra. The two packages comprise the 36 km KIM-ENA section and the 27.50 km Gandeva-ENA section of the expressway. Additionally, he will lay the foundation stone for the four laning of National Highway 56 , a project expected to improve connectivity across tribal regions and provide better access to the Statue of Unity .
In the healthcare sector, the Prime Minister will inaugurate a new 200 bed Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) Hospital in Surat, equipped with modern healthcare infrastructure, secondary healthcare services and 24/7 emergency and trauma care.
On the industrial front, the visit includes the expansion of Gujarat's transmission network under the Inter-State Transmission System , strengthening power evacuation capacity to support growing industrial demand. State level initiatives include power distribution upgrades in Valsad, effluent treatment infrastructure at Dahej PCPIR and Sarigam GIDC , and utilities at the Jambusar Bulk Drug Park .
Travelling to Daman later in the evening, Modi will inaugurate the New Terminal Building of NAMO Airport and dedicate NAMO Hospital to the nation. The hospital has been designed to cater to nearly 1,500 OPD patients per day . Projects worth around ₹1,630 crore will also be launched in Daman, including the Iconic Bridge , the Daman Convention Centre and a NIFT Campus .
Rounding off the visit, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone of port development projects worth ₹885 crore in Lakshadweep , covering multipurpose jetties on Kalpeni and Kadmat Islands capable of berthing cruise vessels of up to 300 metres. These initiatives are expected to boost maritime connectivity, support local fishermen and strengthen island tourism.
