Modi received at Al Baraka Palace, India-Oman ties get a boost

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly welcomed by Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al‑Said at Al Baraka Palace in Muscat on Thursday, marking the beginning of his two‑day official visit to Oman, the final leg of his three‑nation diplomatic tour after Jordan and Ethiopia.

During the reception, PM Modi and Sultan Haitham held high-level bilateral talks aimed at strengthening India‑Oman ties across strategic, economic, and cultural sectors. The discussions are expected to deepen cooperation in multiple areas, reflecting the longstanding 70-year diplomatic relationship between the two nations.

The two leaders focused on finalizing and potentially signing a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) to boost bilateral trade and investment, reduce trade barriers, and enhance market access for goods and services. They also discussed strengthening strategic ties, including maritime security and long-term partnership frameworks. Collaboration in digital technologies, AI, innovation exchanges, and digital payments was emphasized to foster future-ready partnerships. Cooperation in energy security, petroleum products, and related sectors, alongside broader investment opportunities, was also highlighted, along with efforts to enhance agricultural production and food supply resilience. Cultural ties and engagement with the Indian diaspora in Oman were another focus area, alongside discussions on regional challenges and matters of global interest.

During the meeting, PM Modi highlighted the 50th anniversary of Indian schools in Oman, emphasizing the critical role of Indian education in the country. He also underscored the importance of youth empowerment, innovation, and knowledge exchange as pillars of future cooperation. Members of the Indian community and students in Muscat were part of the welcoming delegation, reflecting the strong people-to-people ties between the nations.

The visit resulted in tangible outcomes, including CEPA agreements, enhanced trade and investment flows, and strengthened collaboration in sectors such as technology, education, defence, energy, and culture. This engagement underscores India’s commitment to deepening relations with Gulf partners and expanding its strategic footprint in the region.
