Modi powers up Gujarat’s solar future

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated Avaada Group’s Rs 1,600-crore solar project and also laid the foundation stone for a new 100 MW solar power project in Gujarat. The inauguration highlights the government’s commitment to accelerating India’s clean energy transition and promoting sustainable development.

The 280 MW solar project is spread across 1,170 acres in Tavi and Varsani villages in Surendranagar district and involves a total investment of Rs 1,500 crore, according to a statement by Avaada Group, led by Chairman Vineet Mittal. Developed under the Gujarat State Solar Policy, the electricity generated from the project will be supplied to GUVNL (Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Ltd), contributing significantly to the state’s renewable energy capacity and providing clean and affordable power, particularly benefiting farmers.

The Surendranagar project is expected to offset approximately 5.95 lakh tons of CO2 emissions annually and conserve 112 lakh litres of water each year through the use of robotic module cleaning systems, minimising the project’s ecological footprint.

During the event, PM Modi also virtually laid the foundation stone for Avaada’s 100 MW solar project in Vadodara district, which will cover 350 acres with a planned investment of Rs 400 crore. The Vadodara project is scheduled for commissioning by April 2026 and is expected to reduce about 2.13 lakh tons of CO2 emissions annually while saving nearly 40 lakh litres of water annually using advanced robotic cleaning technology.

Avaada Group is a diversified clean energy conglomerate, with operations in renewable power generation, solar PV manufacturing, green hydrogen and derivatives, green data centres, battery storage, and pumped hydro projects.

The inauguration of these projects marks a significant step forward in India’s renewable energy expansion, supporting the government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat while promoting environmental sustainability and efficient resource management.
