Modi on NEET Leak: Strong Words, Tough Action and No Talk of Pradhan’s Exit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday addressed the NEET paper leak controversy, asserting that those responsible must face strict punishment and that no one should be allowed to jeopardise the future of the country's youth.

His remarks came a day after thousands of students and supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) participated in a 'Sansad Chalo' protest in Delhi. The demonstrators demanded accountability over alleged irregularities in the NEET examination and sought the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Speaking at the NDA parliamentary party meeting, Modi said immediate action was taken after the alleged paper leak came to light. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said 13 people had been arrested and jailed in connection with the case.

The prime minister also highlighted the government's decision to conduct a re-examination to protect students affected by the controversy. The re-test was prioritised and its results were declared without unnecessary delay, Rijiju said. Modi stressed that those found guilty of involvement in paper leaks should receive the strictest possible punishment. He also called for the Centre and state governments to work together, regardless of political differences, to prevent such incidents in the future.

The prime minister said examination integrity was a matter of national interest rather than party politics and emphasised the need for a foolproof system to stop paper leaks and other forms of malpractice. The controversy has intensified political pressure on Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, with protesters demanding his resignation. However, no announcement was made regarding his removal or resignation at the NDA meeting. The government's focus, as outlined by Modi, remains on prosecuting those responsible and strengthening the examination system.

During the meeting, Modi also discussed the country's recent achievements and free trade agreements signed with other nations. Rijiju said the prime minister assured NDA MPs that farmers' interests would remain protected under such agreements.

The meeting also saw newly elected Rajya Sabha members, including BJP president Nitin Nabin, being congratulated. Rijiju said the NDA would work towards passing important legislation during the Monsoon Session and urged opposition parties to cooperate on issues concerning the nation's future and its youth.
