PM Modi Lauds Governance Vote, Rahul Vows Continued Fight for Democracy and the Constitution

The Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 concluded with a resounding mandate for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which secured over 200 of the 243 seats, marking one of the most emphatic victories in the state’s recent political history. The BJP emerged as the single largest party with around 89 seats, closely followed by the JD(U), while Chirag Paswan’s LJP (Ram Vilas) achieved an impressive strike rate, underscoring its growing influence within the alliance. The NDA’s consolidated performance reinforced the appeal of its “double engine” governance model and dealt a major blow to the opposition’s electoral calculations.

The Mahagathbandhan, led by the RJD, suffered a significant setback, with its vote share failing to translate into seat wins across several constituencies. The RJD’s tally dropped sharply, the Congress was reduced to single digits, and Left allies struggled for relevance. Organisational gaps, multi-cornered contests, and the NDA’s broadened support base particularly among women, youth, and multiple caste groups—proved decisive. The NDA also made notable advances in regions with substantial minority populations, signalling shifting political alignments.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked Bihar’s voters, attributing the mandate to the support of women and youth and framing it as an endorsement of development and stability. Home Minister Amit Shah described the verdict as a rejection of “jungle raj,” while BJP president JP Nadda highlighted the unity of the alliance and its development-driven campaign.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, returning with a strengthened mandate, expressed gratitude and pledged faster, inclusive development. Chirag Paswan hailed the results as a reward for the NDA’s performance and a repudiation of what he called opposition arrogance.

Within the opposition, the Congress leadership struck a tone of reflection while reaffirming its commitment to constitutional values. Rahul Gandh i expressed gratitude to supporters, called the Bihar result unexpected, alleged the election was unfair from the start, and said the Congress and INDIA alliance will review the outcome and continue their fight to protect the Constitution and democracy. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge acknowledged the mandate but reiterated concerns over alleged misuse of institutions, promising renewed resolve.

RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, though disappointed, maintained that his campaign for the rights of youth, farmers, and marginalised communities would continue with greater vigour. Prashant Kishor, despite Jan Suraaj’s poor electoral performance, said that his commitment to reform-oriented politics and governance improvements would remain unchanged.

Despite the overwhelming mandate, the NDA faces substantial governance challenges. Chronic unemployment, large-scale migration, weak health and education systems, agricultural stagnation, and the need for enhanced welfare delivery and improved law and order will demand urgent attention. With Bihar’s most decisive verdict in years, the NDA has been handed both the authority and responsibility to deliver transformative governance that meets the aspirations of a rapidly evolving electorate.
